Weather-SPOK- Grumble
Hopefully the last of the Snow on the east Fellside spiked my linguistic curiosity. Our Dialect seems to consist of a combination of different spelling/pronunciation and a diversity of words held over from an assortment of what Flanders & Swann would term "Scandiwegian" invaders.
Many years ago I detected a Dutch influence in form Mam did somebody a favour and they wrote her a Thank-you letter (In Dutch); she had to enlist Eddie Posthuma(Sp?) to translate it from the Dutch. Their "Hartelijke Danke" I remember every time I think/say "It's a nicelike day today"

Enter Mr. Spok for the logic problem.
"When Ah waz a lad" electrickery (© Catweasel ) came to our row. Mam had one Socket at about waist height in the "Kitchen" (Living room to you lot) and one on the Landing to vacuum the three bedrooms. It was at skirting board height (Are there still skirting boards in modern houses?) All the plugs were like the one on the left and needed a sharp U-turn to get up to the vacuum. Now more sockets are at a more convenient height but many wires now exit from plug top necessitating a U-turn to go down to where required.

GRUMBLE alert.
With the spare battery I bought for the new Camera what was the point of a loose, open-topped plastic bag around packing almost requiring a crowbar & Blasting powder to separate tightly glued card and gain access?
