Sally Mair - Loving life

By Sallymair

O Tannenbaum....

Tuesday, our last day before family start to arrive. So much to do and so little motivation, and yet... I got up early and sorted out the linen cupboard folding all the linen which had magically unfolded itself, pairing pillow cases and sorting towels. I also identified the bedding and towels for the 3 beds to be made up upstairs. Things have been a bit all over the place since we had to move beds around and turn sitting rooms into bedrooms while mum was here.
Once Colin was up I made up the beds and made sure the rooms were ready. There's even a Lindt chocolateTeddy on each of the pillows.
The next job was washing all of the bedding I'd removed, three loads of it! I even decided to tumble it all afterwards too so that it could go straight into the tidy cupboard.
I had a hair appointment at 1, my hair is now back to its natural blond (don't listen to blipper blethers who perhaps may remember things slightly differently :-).
I did a quick raid on M&S and Sainsburys on my way home. Christmas Day is fine it's just providing food for at least three extra for several days which is throwing me a bit.
Once I got home I gave myself a bit of a talking to and decorated the Christmas tree, I can't understand why it was such an effort, normally you have to hold me back. Still it's come out quite well although the usual problem of the phone camera picking out the blue and green of the lights and missing the yellow and red completely. I even put the chocolate teddies on the tree too, a Christmas essential!
You can see a Snoopy decoration on the right of the tree, a joke gift, given to us last year to commemorate 2020 with Snoopy wearing a face mask. We didn't realise it would still be appropriate this year too. Probably just as well.
In spite of the fact that Amazon managed to deliver 4 different packages to us today, DHL say there was nobody in. I always doubt whether they actually even tried when they don't leave a card, maybe I'm just a cynic. They had been asked to leave the package in the front porch if there was no reply - there often isn't as they insist on hammering on the door rather than using the doorbell and we can't hear that from inside the house. The porch had the door wide open, but they chose not to. We've rearranged for tomorrow! We'll wait and see.
Bridge this evening was good, one of our 4 has had to self isolate with their family until 28th December as their daughter has tested positive. Their son has had to go to another relative in the North as he has to leave his hall of residence in Glasgow but can't come home. I think that is happening to many families, still at least he had someone to go to.
Keep safe and well folks, our church has made the decision to follow the FM's guidance and to cancel Friday's Christingle service. I suppose it was inevitable, and sensible, and for me, personally, a relief.
