Sally Mair - Loving life

By Sallymair

The shortest day.....

I am told repeatedly that the 21st December is the shortest day. I can assure you that the 21st December 1982 was very definitely the longest day I have ever experienced. It started when I went into labour at 4.30am and lasted until Kathryn arrived at around 2pm on the 22nd. Still it was worth it in the end.
Today I decided to tackle some of the tasks that needed doing before Christmas..... why?.... nobody is coming into the house which means that no-one is going to know whether I have done them or not! Still... The fish tank has been cleaned out, I'm sure the fish are happy.

I popped into town to pick up a couple of things on order. I didn't want to use public transport so took the car into town to swell the council's coffers and pay to park.
I had wondered whether the town centre would be decorated and was pleased to see that it is, to a degree. There is even a small local market set up on Castle Street, or perhaps that is always there. It just shows how long it is since I've been into town.
I went into Morrisons on my way home and then I went to drop a hellebore off at Kathryn's as an early birthday present. She thought perhaps it might survive in their sunless garden.

Back home and for some reason I seem to have developed a sore back /shoulders. Hopefully a good night's sleep will sort that though.
I'm hearing so many sad stories of people who had hoped to be together at Christmas whose hopes have now been dashed.
Now today's news is that Europe has an excuse to get rid of us early, what a world. Is it really possible that the UK is the only place with this new variant, it seems unlikely. Or have we just shot ourselves in the foot, yet again and everybody else has it but isn't saying. Who knows.
More doom and gloom from Westminster. I don't know why I listen to the news. I do keep an eye on our local figures though and I'm delighted to see that Blackhall has 0-2 cases. Hopefully both of them are staying home as are their contacts and will get better soon without infecting anyone else.

Keep safe everyone, we are getting there.
