Boxing Day

The rain poured hard last night. I woke several times imagining the water pouring down the road into the stream, thinking of the water logged fields we’d be wading through in our dog walks. By dawn it was quiet. The rain gone. A different world altogether!

And so, after breakfast we walked by the sea at Emsworth and watched the Boxing Day sailing boat race on the mill pond. A crowd gathered to watch the spectacle of 12 or so tiny remote controlled sail boats jostling for the best angle on the wind. There was quite an atmosphere of intrigue and excitement. People captured by the spectacle of the brightly coloured sails and competition, on an otherwise grey morning.

Later the skies cleared and the sun shone. As we pulled on our wellies and waded around the field, in the cool late afternoon air, a mist began to form and the sun gave us spectacular golden end to the day.
