Midnight Bells

My first recollection of it being (nearly) Christmas Day was of the church bells in the village calling people to the midnight service. On and on they went, a quarter peel we think. It felt reassuring after their absence last Christmas and for long periods this and last year, and so special to hear them in the dark night as I lay warm in bed.

So, it seems rather appropriate that my blip today should feature the church tower - and the oak trees in the field were we have squished and sloshed through mud and water twice today - much to Merlin’s delight.

Our day has been slow and relaxed. Just the two of us and Merlin able to please ourselves. Breakfast in bed, a traditional Christmas lunch but with chicken, cooked by Andy. Sandwiches and soup for dinner whilst watching a film. We’ve spoken with family and neighbours, and had some fresh air and exercise. So grateful for all of that.

Merry Christmas!
