goodbye Tokyo

We spent today on Odaiba, a man made island in Tokyo Bay. Originally intended for defence, it is now a futuristic residential and business district with some spectacular modern architecture. We reached it on a monorail (no driver!) which goes up over the Rainbow Bridge from Shimbashi and enjoyed lunch looking out at a replica of the Statue of Liberty. We then visited Toyota Mega Web, where you can sit in all the newest Toyota cars (and Sarah enjoyed an open top Lexus). Then a couple of hours at the Panasonic Centre where we looked at all the latest gadgets. Mostly we just had a good time strolling around in the sunshine.

This photo was taken from the monorail on our way back. You can see Tokyo Skytree on the far right, which is the tallest structure in Japan at 634m. The height was chosen specially, since the figures 6 (mu), 3 (sa) and 4 (shi) stand for 'mubashi', the old name for the area where the Skytree now stands.
