Walk on Niemi area

This is Lielahti manor. It has been a horse farm owned by the von Nottbeck family from 1872 to 1904, and this main building was designed by Maria Lydia von Nottbeck. The current main building of the manor was built by the son of a Finlayson manufacturer von Nottbeck.

The manor was bought from von Nottbeck by the manufacturer J. W. Enqvist, as the pulp mill of Ab J. W. Enqvist Oy was established on its lands in 1913. The mill owner also bought near Niemi manor, an ordinary country manor. The residential area of the factory workers was built in the Niemi area. An awesome barn was also built there, as the owner began to take care of the company’s food self-sufficiency.

We walked from the Lielahti manor to the Niemi manor lands today. There is a frisbeegolf route on the fields and small hills now between these manors.

Today all of these properties are owned by Tampere city. All kind of small art boutiques and handcraft business can rent room from these manors. The main buildings on Lielahti manor and Niemi manor as well as water tower and the Nottbeck Cemetery and Chapel are protected as cultural sites.

-2,5c cloudy day, snowing some 5cm today. Partly some icy rain. I collected all christmas decorations away, but arranged all christmas lights into new year decorations.
