A Beacon on Boxing Day
We had planned a Boxing Day walk from St Abbs to St Abbs Head lighthouse, but the day dawned wet and very windy. Maybe a cliff walk wasn't such a good idea, and probably not a hill walk either!
Instead we decided to walk on Ross Sands, out to the two navigation beacons at Guile Point. They were built in 1826 to mark safe passage for vessels approaching Lindisfarne harbour. Going out to the beacons wasn't too bad with the wind mostly behind us, but it seemed a very long way back to the van fighting against the wind with the rain in our faces! A good opportunity to test my new jacket, a Christmas gift from MrM - thankfully it's both waterproof and windproof!
Home for a meal of leftovers, and the cheese course intended for yesterday. What a feast!
A fiercely-fought game of Scrabble to end the day...
(The Blip shows the most westerly of the two beacons, apparently known as Heugh Hill. The other is Guile Point. We walked out to the Beacons after Christmas 3 years ago, when the weather was very different.)
