New Year's Day

Joanna and I had a wonderful New Year's day walk with Jess. We started at Carsethorn, the port from where 1000's of people emigrated in the 18th and 19th centuries, and walked along the back paths and tracks past Arbigland House and John  Paul Jones' Cottage (of American Navy fame). We met the Dumfriesshire & Stewartry Hunt - whatever your views on hunting, the horses are beautiful. Jess behaved very well around them and one of the men remarked that she looked like a "quality dog" (which of course she is).

After all this excitement, we were glad to reach the shore at Powillimount and to walk back to Carsethorn along the almost empty beach. We sat on a log to eat our picnic lunch, and then looked for (and found) some fossils.

6.6 miles (or thereabouts).
