Silly Saturday: Saint Nicholas

Every Christmas when our offspring visit they like to decorate our Christmas cake for us and they always do something silly with Playmobil figures. (Previous iterations can be seen (see here and here and here and here and here and here - sometimes in the extras). We always cut a ski slope into the cake and then the icing gets poured on over a marzipan layer.

This year the decorating had to wait until Son#2 and partner arrived this week, and they decorated it yesterday (how silly - a Christmas cake not decorated until New Year's Eve!).

The explanation for this crazily silly scene is as follows (our son kindly typed this bit out for me):

The cake depicts the miracles of/legends about Saint Nicholas:
1. Top of the slope: Saint Nicholas is resurrecting three children, who were killed and pickled in barrels by a malicious butcher.
2. Bottom of the slope: Saint Nicholas is rebuking a terrible storm, causing it to subside. As you can see, the storm is being sent by Zeus.
3. Left of the slope: Saint Nicholas – in the guise of Battle Santa – is battling an executioner, to save three soldiers who were wrongly condemned to be executed.
4. Right of the slope: Saint Nicholas is secretly delivering dowries to three sisters, who would otherwise be forced into prostitution (I've taken the photo in such a way as to protect their identities, to keep to GDPR regulations of course).

The icing ended being a bit runny this year, but I guess that's appropriate to represent global warming as the snow & glaciers melt!

So I hope you can chuckle at this silly cake, for the first Silly Saturday of 2022 in memory of Willemein (Admirer) - I'm sure she'd have had a good laugh!

I'm actually hosting Silly saturday this time, so I'll try to find time to award hearts and HMs in the next few days. Meantime, please have a fabulous New Year - hopefully with plenty of fun and silliness. Please take part in the challenge if you wish, with a photo taken today (1st January) - the tags are SilSJan2022 or SilS274.
