End Of The First Day

It was a pretty uneventful New Year's Day.  A little cooking, a little shopping for a piece of furniture for our somewhat empty living room which I put in Extra - it will be minus all the "stuff" on top of it. The store was a mix of mostly refinished vintage furniture and eclectic new things. Quite interesting. We've arranged to have someone pick it up and deliver it as we don't have a car or truck to take it home.

We did enjoy some time sitting out on the patio in beautiful 70F degree weather.  Later we picked Ben up from work and headed home for dinner. I'm embracing the southern New Year tradition of "Hoppin' John", a mixture of black-eyed peas (for pennies), greens (I substituted kale and spinach for collard), that for dollars and corn bread (for gold) for a prosperous year ahead.  There were a few other ingredients and it was actually quite tasty - bacon, onions, broth, garlic - well you get the idea hopefully. The local fresh off the boat shrimp was outstanding too.

One of the big differences in the landscape here that is different is how flat it is. Coming over this bridge (Jon was driving) and you get quite a view of the lowlands.  We also met our new next door neighbors and they seem pretty easy going.  It's also quite different living in a "neighborhood" after our remote and private spot in New Hampshire.  Change is good I think.
