Kinkakuji
A busy day today, rushing around as much of Kyoto as we could. Sometimes things didn't go to plan, but we had a good time at the end!
This is the first place we visited, a Zen Buddhist temple named Kinkakuji in the north-west of the city. This impressive building is coved with pure gold leaf, and had been rebuilt after it was burnt down in the 1970s by a disgruntled monk!
Next stop Ryoanji (a Zen rock garden), tempura lunch, and some hanami (cherry-blossom viewing) in the evening. It's so nice to see my family!
