"Don't Even Think..."

....About using this Anvil for an anchor!!

....Well, that's what some of us have done in the past - and one wouldn't go anywhere ever again if one did use it for an anchor, as it would weigh very much more than a hundredweight..it is solid steel and made in England, many years ago..

A lot of history would go with this old blacksmith's anvil for sure, and I guess some of you would like to have one permanently attached to the shed bench if you had a good use for it..these days...
.... Trouble is - you'd never shift it again...you'd need 5 strong men at least..

Can you see on the left the small Forge, a blacksmith's forge - red hot coals were placed in the 'bowl' on top and the chosen steel was forged into small tools or whatever..

My Dad was a farm blacksmith - he was so clever at making anything needed for our farm equipment, or horse shoes, for the big draft horses - and I remember him doing just that.
Our neighbours used to come over for a part to be made up, and Dad would fire up the old Forge which was definitely not like this little one - but - it makes a nice conversation piece anyway doesn't it...
