A few days ago Linda requested we meet for a walk and talk. She is very stressed as her 95 year old mum is being difficult. I had no great expectations that she’d manage and sure enough, she messaged to cancel. Life is hard for her.

It took me a while to get myself out for a walk as I’d had a disturbed night with the painful shoulder. First I made some veg and lentil soup and an aubergine, mushroom, tomato and kidney bean spicy stew then got out while Mr C slashed some rhododendrons.

I activated the new OS app. It was simple to use and seems accurate, unlike the google one. I had to go up the nick between houses to Blaeberry Hill as the carriage drive is still impassable due to the amount of trees down. It’s very steep then after I reached the moor I slithered up ice before the nice stroll round the tops to Rickety Gate, the red road and back up to the moor by Blue Mill and home by the lower carriage drive. The iPhone said 6 miles and OS said 6.25 so I’m happy with that.

I met a few people to chat to, including a very spry 78 year old who said he used to run all round there, as he was a fell runner. We spoke about my dad training runners for the border games and he knew a few people I also knew from that time.

The blip is looking back down from the moor to the Blue Mill woods with a snowy Cheviot on the horizon.
