Getting ready!
Tomorrow is a big day in the Family History world. On the 6th of January (possibly at midnight, but I won’t be checking that!) the1921 Census will be released. It is very important because the 1931 Census was destroyed by fire and the 1941 Census did not take place. So the next Census release will be 2052 . . . a long wait!
The information in the 1921 Census will help fill some gaps in the lives of our families, even if our parents had not yet been born, as is the case with ours. It will still be interesting to find out where people were living and where they were working etc. just after the war.
So today I got out all my files and tried to sort out details, e.g. where I expect certain people to be. What I’ve discovered is that I’ve never really put together the bits and pieces, and photographs, of my and Gordon’s grandparents’ early lives, so that’s a task that needs doing. Hopefully this Census will inspire me to get on with that.
It will be exciting tomorrow anyway. And at least the task of digitising and organising was put into the hands of the Findmypast people, who know what they are doing and have been working on it for several years. It’s going to be a pay to view system, so they have to get it right. Now to email my cousin to make sure we don’t duplicate!
