The Blues

Bar Azul, around the block, has just cemented itself in our repertoire of authentic places to eat in Barcelona.   Only our second visit but the quality and provenance of produce and style of running the place is unquestionable.  We 
will be sure to amaze future visitors with some 'live as locals' experiences here.   

Bar Azul (Blue) specialises in seafood and our calamares a la romana were amongst the best we have ever tasted, accompanied by the minimalist but traditional salad we asked for . . . tomatoes, onion and olives.

Here, the matriarch of the house is returning inside from inspecting the health of the plants beside our table just after warmly greeting a long standing customer.

It is just beside the famous and recently abandoned El Modelo prison and I wonder if the aromas of its kitchen enchanted many of the incarcerated and/or sent them mad over the years.  Maybe the guy to the right of shot is a former inmate now free to indulge . . . . one can only dream and wish!
