Pont De Sully
Megs was working today, so I had the whole of Paris at my fingertips. Thanks to the amazing location of her flat, almost everything you could ever want to do is within walking distance.
I got up early(ish) as Megs had to go to work, and headed the short stroll to the Musée d'Orsay. After a short queue, I was in, and for nothing thanks to being under 25. Awesome.
The art here is fantastic- I spend a very happy 3 or 4 hours wondering, looking at the huge selection that they have on display. The museum itself is an impressive beaux-art station, which was used up until the start of WWII, and has a huge, high arched ceiling. Once up on the top floor you can look out at the skyline of Paris though one of the 2 huge north facing clocks.
Once my stomach began to rumble, I headed north, jumped on a Velib (a borris-bike type scheme; Meg had lent me her card so I had free reign of the system) and headed across town. I found myself a chineese take-away, as it was bustling with students and thus I expected cheap, but my confusion with French ended up costing me more than expected.
After lunch I headed to the 'Maison Européenne de la Photographie', which had impressive exhimbition of photos by Joel Meyerowitz. I enjoyed it greatly.
By this time my legs were starting to tire, so I started the saunter home from Saint-Paul, across Ile Saint-Louis, and meandered back to the flat for a tea and a crumpet.
Megs wasn't home until 6, so I then had a short cycle south to the Jardin Du Luxembourg, where I had a contented half hour in the evening setting sun, with the Eiffel Tower poking into the horizon.
Once Meg was back, we met up with her fellow exchange students and drank some wine, headed to the local café, and drank more wine. A fantastic, and very French day.
