A pair of great spotted woodpeckers chattering

It was warm enough to sit out on our patio to drink a cup of tea late in the afternoon.

I brought my camera on the off chance of seeing some birds, despite the failing light at the end of the day. I suddenly noticed a great spotted woodpecker on the trunk of the ash tree at the bottom of the garden (see the 'Extra'). After focusing on it for a couple of minutes as it pecked away at the bark a second woodpecker appeared close by and they started to chatter. What a delight.
