Where's Hoppy?
Every time since January that I have been to the Nature Reserve at Aberlady I have seen Hoppy but not this morning. Perhaps he has flown to spend the summer in colder lands. Hoppy is a bar-tailed godwit and unfortunately he has only one foot but it didn't seem to hold him back too much. He could be seen hopping around here near the footbridge looking for juicy lugworms in the mud and if he stumbled he always managed to stand up again using his stump.
Wading birds often stand around on just one leg, as it reduces the amount of body heat they lose to the ground.
