Right so yesterday I indicated the plan was a hill walk in Wales. That was quite right, it was a hill and it was indeed in Wales. BUT I soon realised when I started to talk to my niece, who is lucky enough to live in Brecon. Their concept of a hill is ever so slightly different to that of mine, it's more mountain like - in fact it was going to be Pen-Y-fan ... The daddy of all South Wales walks, is the highest mountain in Southern Britain and comes in at a whopping 886 metres high (that's 2,907 feet) !!!!!
There was the added bonus today of snow on the trails. Not one to give up without a very good excuse, I pulled the poorly foot card. It is true, I have got a dodgy foot and with the snow thickening as we progressed up the hill mountain I was feeling less comfortable about the descent, if I did manage to get to the top.
So having made only a quarter of the way I called time (extreemely frustrated with myself) and while hubby, niece & partner and the two pooches carried on I walked back down (the Blip is looking out across to the mountain opposite, not as tall as the one I was walking down) ... best decision I had made to stop, the walk down was horrific BUT I will get to the top in the summer, those views will be worth it.
The rest did make it up there and back, and in celebration we went off to the The "Mountain Centre" which is located 5 miles south west of Brecon and offers with its location, stunning views of Pen Y Fan. With a Cream scone and a latte .... that was my kind of hillwalking.
For those of you like me who haven't quite made the top of this mountain YET don't feel bad - I found out the SAS use this route for training purposes (although they do add a few more miles to it and do it twice, back to back, in a day, with full back pack) so a few more English size hills and the challenge is September Blip from the top of that Welsh Mountain :)
