Rakaia River Gorge

Today I had the most fantastic day out. My host took me inland and right to the end of the road up the south side of the Rakaia River. Awesome weather and Magnificent scenery. My hostess had packed us a scrumptious picnic which we had at the end of the road
Back last winter that area had horrendous flooding and landslides of gravel coming down from the mountains. All the stations were cut off and food had to be dropped in by helicopter. They have remade the roads through the slips and done a great job. However never in my life have I been on such a rough road. My back and neck feel they have been thrown out of line but it was worth it
What truly amazed me was a really big station through there with hundreds of acres of crop like barley wheat turnips red clover and of all things Sunflowers and another purple flowered crop. I really need to do some research and find out more about it. Those lambs in extras are merino , they look so scruffy yet produce the finest and most beautiful wool
Such a great day but gee I am weary. Have just watched Andy Murray get beaten in the Aussie Open in three sets. I was yelling for him but he mustn’t have heard
Sorry I have not done any commenting today but home tomorrow so will endeavour to catch up
