Cherry blossoms

I went downtown Washington DC on a gorgeous day. The cherry blossoms have just started coming out, they will be at their peak some time in the coming week, so you can expect to see more pink blips in the coming days.

For those of us living around Washington DC, the blossoming of the cherry trees is the official start of spring. Every year I enjoy seeing those delicate and magnificent flowers, and for just a few days, the 3,750 cherry trees around the tidal basin turn a peaceful lovely pink, attracting thousands of tourists.

The plantings of cherry trees originated in 1912 as a gift of friendship to the People of the United States from the People of Japan.
