Grounded
There is a certain advantage to being grounded
No wheels circling beneath me for a bit…..
I can’t cover as much area;
Yet I see more when I walk and when I sit.
The west side of the Rio is wilder than the east
No crusher fine trails, only dirt to support my feet,
Forested footpaths a new sensory treat.
Grounded
I hear more…..birds, squirrels, the wind,
the water gurgling near the shore.
Grounded
I pay attention more…..
ducks, geese, new places to explore
I find a bench beside the riverbank
Watch the Rio flow like a living lake
Wide, smooth, almost placid
Layered with blonde reeds and grasses
Rust colored tamarisk
Silver crowned cottonwoods
Azure blue skies…
I may be grounded,
but I can also fly.
