Amandine's Plot Treize

Deer fencing

One of the first crops to be enjoyed (ie asparagus) is unfortunately high on the list of foods loved by muntjac deers.

This means I always need to be ready before new spears appear in the spring, which is why I generally fence off the beds in the winter.

Last year, I realised when I needed to access the asparagus beds for weeding that I'd also fenced myself out so this time, I decided to add a 'door' for easy access to the beds for weeding, watering and (1st job of the spring) removing the leaf mulch.

I really can't wait for delicious asparagus - it's going to be Year 5 for most plants and Year 2 for new ones so should be a good harvest!
