Day three - and to Mandalay
Once more, a lovely day but multiple black marks for the guest house. We're told at 9.30 that it's lunch time, after breakfast at 7. The 6 hour walk promised is definitely nearer 4 however much we dawdle. But we visit more weird Buddha caves, walk thorough pine forests and fields, and generally love it. Definitely made by our guide - here with her cousin: but yet another black mark that she can only be seeing a fraction of our cash.
Back in Kalaw we challenge the guy who set us up with the trip. He knows immediately what we're on about. He asks us if we think it is his responsibility. Are we so unreasonable as to think that because we handed the loot to him and he promised to sort it all out without saying anything about his nephews, that he has any responsibility? If there's a problem we must talk to his nephews -complete shysters who we'd never have had anything to do with given any kind of choice. It was worth bringing up just for the reaction. Trip advisor here we come.
The rest of the day doing what we do best: mulching around noodle stalls, discovering more street food and drinking beer. Night bus to Mandalay. The final push. For 2 hours Ul leaps up every 5 minutes to interrogate the newest bus much to the amusement of everyone else. Ours is the very last to arrive.
