A Fine Day Trip
Cloudy with some sunshine, high 41deg F, low expected to be 25 deg F. At this moment, we are supposed to be in a snowstorm but I have yet to see a flake. Up early, ate a quick bite and headed to Ridge to pick up my mother. We drove to the Westmoreland State Park in Va to check out the campground. It isn’t as wonderful as Pocahontas but we selected several campsites that meet our criteria. We drove all around the park (even in areas marked closed). We walked around the grounds of the visitor center although the area by the Potomac River was fenced off. Hubby has a photo of him and his younger sister taken many years ago standing by this massive tree (possibly an oak). I also took a close up to show the intricacies of the trunk. There is an American holly tree growing in the middle. There were plenty of birds but my mother was in the car so we hurried along. The eagle was quite a ways away. Just as I lifted the camera for a closer shot, it flew away and the tree branches obstructed a good view. The bluebird appeared as we were leaving the park. We stopped at a mom and pop restaurant and enjoyed shrimp po’ boys. Momma got her standard chicken strips. Gas is much cheaper in Va than at home so I grabbed a loaf of bread while hubby filled up the tank. They are making great progress on the new bridge. We dropped Momma back at her house; she told us a hundred times how much she enjoyed the day out of the house. She has doctor appointments one day weekly for the next three weeks so we’ll find something fun to do. The kids’ sports activities are canceled for the weekend. But I think this storm may be “much ado about nothing”. Dinner will be leftover pizza after our nap. We had 120 new COVID cases in the last 24 hours, down from yesterday. Stay safe but plan some fun activity for the family this weekend. Thanks for visiting. “A tree has roots in the soil yet reaches to the sky. It tells us that in order to aspire we need to be grounded and that no matter how high we go it is from our roots that we draw sustenance.” ― Wangari Maathai
