Pride of Exmouth
I stood on the quay and waved the birdwatcher off with my cap this morning. She was on this boat, Pride of Exmouth, run by Stuart Line Cruises who specialise in birdwatching trips. They go from Exmouth up the river Exe for three hours at a time. They serve soup on board and my goodness they needed it today. It was fleeing. I didn’t go, I am still thawing out from my only trip, in January seven years ago. Having bid farewell to the boat which was fully booked and laden with a cargo of like minded enthusiasts with a fortune in scopes and cameras, I walked along the seafront to the end, then went to explore the town, which has some interesting buildings, previous inhabitants, and blue plaques in their honour. Notable among these were Lady Byron, and Lady Nelson. The birdwatcher saw several new birds for the year, but the bird of the day was the beautiful Avocet, the symbol of the RSPB.
