The end of the tree

The tree surgeons were on site today finishing off the tree that came down in the gales over the weekend. The main photo shows them at work with the chipper and there's a before and after photo in the extras. It's a shame to lose a tree like that and there are more down or partially down on the estate. Still, I guess some trees are meant to come down in strong winds to supply dead wood as a place for other life to nest, rest, eat and grow. There wasn't a lot left for that from this tree - but we will be glad of the firewood!

It was a busy day on site with not only the tree surgeons at work but also interviews for a new horticultural instructor - and a gas engineer doing our annual checks.
