Maori hei matau
I came across this in a charity shop for £6.00. I held it to check the weight and the flecks in it and concluded it was real jade. B had a jade pendant years ago that got broken and we like tribal looking things so I thought it would make a great birthday prezzie for him today.
He liked it and actually told me that's it's a stylised Maori fishing hook which is an important symbol in their culture. I looked it up on Wiki and discovered it's called a hei matau and is a symbol of good fortune, prosperity, and safe travel.
Taking B to the 1847 restaurant in the town centre tonight. I've read some good reviews but we've been up & down Mosley street a few times and not noticed it. Turns out the entrance is actually on Booth Street.
Going to take pics of the food to accompany a new page called The Veggie Food Review I'm going to do on my blog but I'm going to feel like a bit of an arse for doing so, ha!
