Old canvass bag

We think army issue with a number stamped on the inside of the bag. Tucked into a small inside pocket is the name tag you can see although the last four figures are different to the bag. John has had it for the last 60 years, nothing to do with the army, although not used during the last 50. Will need to do some research on the numbers and disc, I thought army tags included more information. Any ideas?
