My suburban life

Testing times

Our little town has had a compulsory testing order slapped on us today. All 20,000 of us living here are obliged to undergo a compulsory PCR test by Sunday or be fined HKD 10,000 if we don’t comply. Covid has been found in our sewage.

Meanwhile proper police are fining people all over HK who “congregate” in groups larger than 2 a similar amount. The air is filled with horror stories of fines handed out to people waiting for takeaway coffees who haven’t checked in with our tracing app; or people who say hello to their friends in the testing queue. A dark cloud of control has descended. Would it not have been easier to promote and educate people about the vaccine a year ago, one asks oneself?
