Water Rail

It was a chilly but sparkling morning and it was fairly busy at the Wolseley Centre.

The bid hide was full of serious men, well wrapped up, and with flashy long lenses. They’d been told that the kingfisher had been seen an hour before. They weren’t moving. Whether or not they’d be lucky was entirely up to Mrs Kingy.

Apart from the kingfisher, there is so much to see. My rapid snap as a water rail appeared by the water was just lucky. This is quite a nervous bird and I didn’t get more than a fleeting attempt.

Robins were very keen to beg for some seed, but there’s so much Avian flu around, feeding the birds or ducks is banned for now. Apparently, quite a lot of swans on Chasewater have been lost to this nasty disease.

Both goosanders were around, and my friend had seen a couple of goldcrests by Temple Pool.

Spring is coming. There were lovely snowdrops and plenty of buds. Heartwarming.
