Snowdrops and Hellebore
I'd seen last week, that Holme Pierrepoint Hall was welcoming people to come and view the snowdrops. What's the weather going to be like? Asked Len. It didn't seem to be too bad but of course, today we had pouring rain forecast to be heavier after midday.
We actually left the house before 11am and saw most of the garden while it was dry.
There weren't so many snowdrops but the ones we saw were splendid. 'Sam Arnott,' apparently. They're larger and more vigorous than most. We chatted to the owner of the hall at the end of the circuit. He said they were trying to promote the winter displays in the garden. There were lovely hellebore as well, and winter flowering irises. Plus a shrub with a heavenly fragrance - Daphne bholua ‘Jacqueline Postil’, I want to try and find one.
I'm glad we got out when we did. Len cooked egg and bacon on our return, just right for a chilly winter afternoon.
