Snowdrops

Josh turned 25 on Friday. On Saturday he decided to cook dinner for 20 people (what is it about my sons and cooking huge dinners?). Today we had a debrief.

It sounds like he had the most amazing birthday with his friends from the Masters and old friends from Oxford too. His Spanish friend Maria collected messages and video clips from friends old and new and compiled them into a birthday video. His Colombian friend (girlfriend?) Laura arrived fresh from Covid isolation to spend the full day cooking. Realising that he didn’t have a large enough table to seat everyone, one friend walked 5 miles with him to carry back a table he’d bought on eBay while another carried a folding table on the train from Durham.

They spent two days cooking, drinking quite a lot of wine, chatting and playing games and it sounds like they all had a wonderful weekend. Josh’s beouf bourgignon and potato dauphinois seems to have gone down a treat and the two Guineas chocolate cakes his flat mates made were, apparently, amazing.

I have to admire his overambition and it was lovely to hear him so happy. Maybe I’m a little bit envious too - oh to be young again :-)
