Château de Virieu

Today's the day ......................... to call on the Marquis

A trip today to see the ancient Château de Virieu which began life at the start of the 12th century as a fortified mound. The rectangular building that you see here had taken shape by the early 14th century but continued to evolve over the centuries until the present day.

It is still owned and occupied by the de Virieu family who opened it to the public in 1935. Unfortunately, it wasn't open to us today as it is still a bit early in the year - so we just had to admire it from afar ........................
