Erythronium 'Pagoda'

Today's the day ............................... to return to winter

After all that nice weather, it came as a bit of a shock to feel that icy blast from the north east this morning. It just got worse and worse throughout the day so that by the time I was on my way home from work, the wind was blowing a gale and I had to battle through sleety snow.

No wonder this delicate little erythronium was tightly shut. Normally you can see exactly why it gets its name 'Pagoda'. It has pale yellow nodding flowers with petals that curve backwards and somehow look very Japanese.

I think it's out much earlier than it was last year - and it's probably wishing that it wasn't ....................................
