Making batik fabric

After a slightly chaotic breakfast in Permuteran - due to the arrival of the Denpassar International School for their 'zeeklassen' - we packed up again and were on the road to Ubud.

We arrived in the Beji Resort, Ubud just before 1 pm. So time for lunch! Abbie and Pippa were delighted to see burgers on the menu - Bert and I sticked with the Indonesian food. After lunch we shopped in the immediate environment of the hotel. We have bought a traditional (mostly yellow and gold) sarong for Pippa and a modern hand painted batik for Abbie. We were invited to see the workshop behind the shop where they painted the fabrics. First a man draws the design onto the white fabric, then a second man traces the drawings with hot wax and finally these ladies colour in the whole fabric.
Privileged to see the whole process!
