Mallards on the move
We went to Montezuma today hoping for some good birding . However.... what we got was a mile walk ( wish it was longer ) one eagle , some mallards flying over, a few seagulls and... lots of frozen ponds with no ducks or swans. The swans we did see were on Cayuga but so distant I couldn't tell you if they were tundra swans or mixed flocks. The ducks weren't even cooperating. Usually Sheldrake Point is a good spot for ducks. Nope. We swung by the airport hoping for the snowy owl seen there but found a hunting harrier instead. ( Which was just fine.)
So , realizing nothing more was to be gained, and SheldrakePoint also with another draw - ie the winery .... 5 more bottles of wine are now happily sitting in the fridge.
