Woggles

The one I made for The Cygnet yesterday was Cherry (from a neighbour's garden) - a nice wood but slightly plain, so I went out to make one from a bit of Yew ..... always full of character.
Unfortunately, some of the character comes in the form of the lighter sapwood 'delaminating'  and not having brilliant strength running down the grain.
1st attempt ...... slightly larger inner diameter than I had intended - and it cracked (repaired with superglue)
2nd attempt ..... a piece left the game as I was sanding it (still usable though).
3rd attempt ...... cracked - but correct internal size (again, repaiered with superglue).

After lunch SWMBO went for a lie down so I went out to the garage, cut some chunks of Yew ready for making a couple of bowls ... and then ended up making the small bowl/drinking vessel from an offcut.
It played the game and didn't develop any cracks or splits.
After sanding it I used some abrasive paste on it and felt it didn't actually need anything else.
The pictures I took of it haven't really done justice to it.

This morning their was a road sweeper/washer turned up and filled up with water from the standpipe (and stank up the air with its exhaust fumes). It then left (to do some work?????) leaving the hose and 'key' still connected to the mains pipe.....blocking the driveway of course.
The fumes returned two or three times more while I was out in the garage.
At the end of the 'working day' they were good enough to put the waste bin in the drive for next door to find when she got home.
Just a shame it isn't her bin ...... no idea where they 'found' it because there were none in the street this morning.
