Wray Castle and High Wray

Our morning started with bring breakfast to our room again. It was nice that we didn’t need to be out till 10:30. It didn’t feel a rush.
We had a wander round Ambleside and went into a couple of stores then had coffee and apple pie in the Apple pie cafe. I haven’t been there since Eon and I went all those years ago and could only afford one piece of apple pie between us! Must be about 30 years ago!! Unlike then Cathie and I had our own coffee and pie. It was very yummy.
After that we drive to Wray Castle as the ferry is still not running. We parked there and intended to walk along the lake but it wasn’t long before the lake swamped the path….so we took a foot path through some very marshy fields up to High Wray and wandered back along the road to the castle. It did stay dry for us but was a lot windier than yesterday. We wondered if we’d ho for a swim but the weather was just not inspiring enough!
Back at the castle we had a cup of tea and a cake then headed home. That was when the rain started. We did so well with the weather.
So nice to have been away. :)
