St David's Day

Some years ago, I was at a conference in the US on the 1st of March. I have an enamelled daffodil brooch which I dust off each year for the occasion and was wearing it whilst standing in a queue for lunch. The lady next to me said ‘I love your brooch.’ ‘Ah I said, I’m wearing it because today is St David’s day; he’s the patron saint of Wales.’ ‘Gee’, she said, ‘I really love those animals.’ I still smile.

But it is hard to smile for long as Putin edges ever closer to overwhelming Ukraine.
