Sheep and hares
Difficult to decide on a photograph today, but finally made my mind up.
This morning we met up with the Bus Pass Walkers at the Piece Hall in Halifax.
Lovely to meet up with them all once again.
Spent an enjoyable time looking round and then coffee and cake ( my piece of lemon lush cake was huge. Actually had to leave some which isn’t like me!)
Afterwards walked down to the Minster. I have never been inside before, and had no idea what I had missed for all those years.
A truly magnificent interior.
So my blip photo is The Piece Hall bell and weathervane, including the historic sheep, in between Sophie Ryder’s sculpture of the dancing hares. Part of a very interesting exhibition being held in the square.
The extra is a collage of the church of St John the Baptist which was given Minster status by the Bishop of Wakefield in 2009 in recognition of its important role in the civic life of the borough.
The 92 painted wooden panels in the ceiling represent the coats of arms of the first 30 vicars, local families and the twelve tribes of Israel.
The font cover is 15th century. Hidden during the Civil War. Original painted bright green, blue and red.
The Duke of Wellington ‘s Regimental Chapel with the display of flags.
The intricate
plain glass window which replaced the stained glass destroyed in the 16th 17th centuries.
Bishop Ferrar Memorial. Born in Halifax ; Bishop of St David’s under Henry VIll . Very appropriate for today......St David’s Day.
A very enjoyable day. Good company, beautiful if cold weather, and to finish a new pair of trainers.
Now to make the pancakes!
