Popping Up

Although still freezing, the ice diminishes revealing more of autumn's remains with each passing day. The patterns in the ice are endlessly interesting and its translucency shows such a variety of textures from the detritus below.

Quite what the round black object is, I'm not sure, possibly a walnut. It does provide a counterpoint to set off the whole design. I think what pulled me in, however, were the leaves.

We can wish things were in a different place in the image, and to a certain extent the arrangement is controlled by framing, but in the end we have to work with what's given.
