Atop the Cobbler
(Well at least the slightly smaller summit)
The weather was stunning today as forecast and we headed out what we thought was early doors to have a go up the Cobbler. Got the to car park just past nine to find it full with only one space next to a truck that only a tiny car could fit in. The joys of having a tiny car!
It was frosty when we got up so I got all togged up in my winter thermals and within half an hour I have to nip behind a tree to remove my under-leggings as it was just too hot. Not an occurance I expected in Scotland early March.
The Cobbler is a stunning little hill, I was really spoilt for choice for blips today. It makes you work for the views though with some fairly steep climbs and a fun scramble at the top. There was a bit of snow and ice about too, but luckily not enough to warrant crampons and ice axes as we don't have either of those. Chatted with a chap on the way up who was out in the hills for the first time in four years and thought the Cobbler would be easier than the nearby munro, but I' m not sure sure looking at the climbs! Also met a couple where the guy offered to throw his partner down a slope to teach ice axe arrest falls...I'm not sure she was so keen.
We didn't quite mange the full loop as the down path was covered in quite a bit of icy snow, so we did the there-and-back-again route. Was a cracking day and it's so great to be in Scotland with these things not too far away.
Blip is from the small summit as the main one again was blocked by a bit of dodgy looking snow. This was our lunch view, can't complain about it at all.
