Day & Night

I’m not sure how I can even begin to describe today. I can’t do it briefly.

Elbows and I wanted to do our own thing - and not join organised tours that cost silly money.

So we headed to a Sherpa Stepped Walk up a mountain, that was described as moderately difficult and an opportunity to don some trainers and get some exercise. Ha.

The steps were under the snow somewhere. The incline was immense and walking boots were not good enough. Everyone else had snow spikes. So we had to crawl up, often on all fours, trying to find footsteps made by others as we navigated ice and deep snow, stupidly steep inclines and no get-out options. It was actually pretty scary and by the time we reached the top, we were done in, mentally and physically. But once there, the views were spectacular. The crowds had got up there by cable car and we were easily convinced that descending by cable car was the best.

I’ll add another photo - the night scene that doesn’t have The Northern Lights in it, is the mountain we climbed - the white bright blob being our destination.

And then later, during supper back on the boat, it was announced that the Northern Lights had been spotted, so we all headed up to top decks to look. It takes some pukka camera to get really decent photos, and a tripod, but we got the jist.

I am tired and happy. Relieved to be safe now and warm. :-)
