The Mosedale Horseshoe
We set ourselves a major challenge today. The full Mosedale Horseshoe, Parked at Wastwater, and climbed Pillar, Scoat Fell, Steeple, Red Pike and Yewbarrow. A total of 12 1/5 miles, almost 4000 feet of altitude. Described as "Arduous" - apparently more difficult than "strenuous", and it was!
The ups weren't so bad, but coming off Pillar, Scoat Fell, and Red Pike was extremely steep and scrambly.
Yewbarrow is in another league, the scramble up it was more akin to rock climbing, and the descent back to the car at the end of the "walk" was in itself, really hard going.
I think that's the hardest route in the Lakes - certainly tougher than the Kentmere Horeseshoe, and more technical than either Sharp Edge or Jacks Rake. Still, another 5 off the Wainwright 2 list.
Pillar: 2,927 ft: 142/214
Scoat Fell: 2,760 ft: 143/214
Steeple: 2,687 ft: 144/214
Red Pike: 2,707 ft: 145/214
Yewbarrow: 2,058 ft: 146/214
