A Surprise

A surprise because it’s been dark and grey for several days so I was surprised to see the sun come out and provide a beautiful display as it went down!

There’s been more skiing, though not today. It’s a mini-tour in the Cross-Country skiing world - three days over a long weekend, this time in Drammen and Oslo in Norway. Yesterday were the sprints in Drammen - right in the city centre. Tomorrow and Sunday will be the long distance races just outside of Oslo. The women will do 30k and the men will do 50k.

The world has changed in the last 10 days or so, and the sporting world has also changed. Along with many other sports it was decided that the Russian skiers couldn’t participate. They had already arrived in Oslo, but had to go home. It was sad, but it was the right decision. Also, the entire Norwegian sprint team caught covid in the last week. But there are SO many cross-country skiers in Norway that they had no trouble replacing them for yesterday’s race! But many familiar names were noticeably absent.
