I got solipsism, baby, and I brought lemonade
Glasgow Barrowlands, 4th August 1990, Aztec Camera played with Guest appearances from Edwin Collins and Mick Jones. Himself and I were bedecked in our brand new Reeboks, which given the state of the Barrowlands were drawing undue attention and so we spent the first fifteen minutes standing on each other’s feet to blend them in.
That was my last gig at the Barrowlands.
Until tonight!!!
Roll on 31.5 years. Yes. Thirty one point five…
We were slightly feart that we may be the oldest swingers in town, but happily and obviously we weren’t. (Albeit that a load of Glaswegians look a shit lot older than they are).
Gang of Youths were in town and since Boy and Jess have been raving about them since a 24 hour round trip to Philli to see them - we’ve been listening to and loving their music.
I had forgotten how good live music is when it’s done right. Setting aside other hoomans who Annoy me given any circumstances this was a great night.
As the ever moving, slightly exotic David Le’ aupepe broke into The Man Himself; I was gone. His voice danced through my chest and I thought I was going to burst with joy.
Let me down easy created a dancing frenzy; everyone taking lead from Mr Le’ aupepe and swivelling their hips like a deranged celebrity on Strixtly.
In the wake of your leave sparked an audience sing along, the like of which I haven’t seen since The Waterboys at Ibrox. The band couldn’t resume playing and had to resort to playing their instruments loudly to try and quell the ‘do do dooo, do doo do doo do’
Then there was the walk home along the Gallowgate, and Argyle Street reaching our hotel with aching feet but happy hearts.
Thank god for 24 hour hotel bars with free hot chocolate!
