Monday muck out..
A frosty start again so got my friendly contractor to come and muck out some cattle sheds and haul the dung down the road to the stubble fields there. I will get him to spread it on the ground before it's ploughed ready to sow the barley. It will help provide valuable organic nutrients to help the crops grow, and also help reduce the amount of bagged nitrogen I need to spread
The fertiliser price has gone nuts this year ,and will only get worse as energy prices rocket. It takes energy to produce fertiliser, and there is also a lot imported from Russia. Also the Ukraine is the breadbasket of Europe growing a vast amount of cereals so Mr Putin starting a war will have a huge knock on global impact on grain availability and price. Imagine if that happened here and you couldn't get the crops planted in the spring, you had to flee for your life and leave your livestock to die from starvation .
Any way ,left Kev on laying big 8x4 wheat bales out in the lambing field for shelters while I followed Liam round the sheds he had mucked out and bedded them with straw before letting the cows and calves back in.
Their kit is certainly a lot bigger than ours. It would have taken us 2-3 days to do the job .
A trip to the chiro again tonight. Don't know if it will help, but you've got to try something.
