We are the champion's......
An early start to get the cattle fed before the lorry arrived in at 6.30am to collect the 18 bullocks for the sale at St Boswells mart. Had him loaded and away by 7am without too much hassle.
Loaded up my terrier co pilot and headed off down the road in the Landrover. It certainly goes a bit faster without a trailer load of cattle behind it !
The cattle sold fairly well and behaved in the ring this week . My top limousin made £1300. Sounds a good trade, but that's 27 months from when the bull went to the cow ,she reared it and eventually we sold it. So that's a long keep. Then there is the auctioneers comission at 4 % and who knows what the haulage will cost with the price of diesel going up daily. Still, your either in this job for the long haul or you do something else.
The young farmers had their show and sale of suckled calves today too. They buy them at the mart in the back end then winter them and sell them now.
This was the champion ,425 kilos ,£1200 and not a year old yet.
Back home to reality and mud tonight !
